Too many people make the mistake of believing sunscreen prevents you from getting the tan you want. Having just come back from Cabo wearing SPF 50 the whole time and still getting fried, we've verified that as a myth. There's a reason people don't use tanning oil anymore—it's totally unnecessary! Even on cloudy days, UV radiation still damages skin. The Skin Cancer Foundation suggests wearing SPF 15 or higher every day, but we suggest bumping that up to SPF 30 if you're Space Ghost pale or on vacation anywhere close to the equatorial sun (Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean). The sun is hotter and exposure is more direct in those parts so don't be lazy about covering up every inch of exposed skin. Never leave your room without sunscreen on! And, don't forget to reapply after swimming. Regardless of how waterproof the sunscreen claims to be, too much comes off even in a calm infinity pool.
If you really want to be nice to your skin, choose sunscreens with as many natural ingredients as possible. Alba Botanica's Aloe Vera SPF 15 Sunscreen, Korres' Watermelon SPF 30 and the SPF 30 Sunscreen from Malin and Goetz offer good protection and they're good for your skin too. More moisturizers are offered with SPF ratings too, like Korres Pomegranate Balancing Moisturizer SPF 6 and Evening Primrose Eye Cream, as well as this Billy Jealousy Combat Lines SPF 30. As always, don't forget about your face—lips and eyes!
