Designing brothers Daniel and Michael Casarella translated their penchant for the dark and intriguing 19th century Bowery district in New York City to a casual and contemporary clothing line in 2003. Barking Irons gains its name from 19th century slang for pistols, coined by the youth gangs who roamed the Bowery. Blending that era’s formality with a modern rock and roll feel, it’s no wonder that the Casarella brothers were awarded the 2006 Sportswear International Fashion Award. Slim-fitting graphic tees with an underground NYC appeal showcase the designers’ obsession with authenticity.
